How to Create Easy Thanksgiving Decor

|

It’s that time of the year.. Where it’s still fall, but Halloween is over. And when Halloween is over… all the sudden I’m over pumpkins , and I just want the Twinkly lights of a Christmas tree! But, at the same time I feel the guilt of not paying respect (because I mean Thanksgiving totally needs respect, right?!) to Thanksgiving.

Over the past couple years I’ve tried to really find the balance between acknowledging Thanksgiving, and mixing in some holiday cheer!

The first thing I needed to do was figure out what Thanksgiving meant to me, and bring that feeling into my decor.

What does Thanksgiving mean to me? It means family, cozy, warm, comfort, and most importantly …. FOOD. Being around the table with family, now how to make that happen..

Christmas trees, bring out the trees! If you want your Christmas tree up… PUT IT UP! Let the haters hate, just because it’s up doesn’t mean you have to decorate it. Or you can decorate it, I will leave that up to you. But I promise, the twinkle of the tree alone will give you that comfort and joy feeling. Plus the holiday season is always so rushed, when your tree is up earlier it’s one less thing, and who doesn’t love to enjoy it a little longer. So let’s just make it a rule now, Christmas trees are also Thanksgiving decor!

I only decorate three spots of my home for Thanksgiving. The dining room, the front room mantel, and the entryway. The rest I’m starting to slowly transition fall to winter. Changing fall stems to winter stems, and enjoying a little bit a simplicity before Christmas.

Entryway

Entry, I brought our white pumpkins from the porch in. Then I searched every junk drawer in my home, and found a gold sharpie, white and gold… win-win. The kids each got a pumpkin and wrote things they are thankful for. Finding ways to reuse pumpkins and fall decor makes me feel less guilty about throwing those beautiful pumpkins away after Halloween. Then… over the last few weeks, all the leaves have been falling off the trees! The kids and I hopped in the car drove to the park on a mission for pretty fall leaves!! We spent and afternoon just grabbing the prettiest leaves we could find, it was a perfect fall afternoon.

I took these leaves and used mod podge to preserve them. I picked up these frames from the dollar tree, and the mats from Amazon. This whole gallery wall cost me right around $25!! I just love passing this wall throughout the day, it makes me smile, thinking of the memory we created that day!

Mantel

Moving onto the mantel, and more leaves!! That day we spent in the park picking up leaves, may have gotten a little out of control!! So I decided to preserve them all using mod podge and making them into a garland! Once they were finished I had the idea to take a black sharpie and write some of the best memories from 2020. 2020 has been something out of a crazy dream, so remembering the good to come out of it was something we all needed. With the twinkle of the Christmas tree it just makes this room super cozy, and inviting! Also threw some gourds from the produce section of the grocery store in the mix. Along with this sign I found on clearance for a few dollars at hobby lobby.

I always seem to find thanksgiving decor in other areas other than the fall decor section. I believe that one was just over by the regular home decor. I would suggest keeping your eyes open for deals in other places of the store.

Dining Room

Finally, the dining room. The main event!! We wait alllll year to sit in this room!😂 it’s the table we bring the entire family around. We laugh, make memories, and just enjoy each other’s company. This is where I wanted all the warm and cozy, and bring us in the moment, no distractions. Just family, food, and enjoying each other’s company.

I bought the garland for 70% at Michaels three years ago. But now is a perfect time to find left over fall for super cheap. Brass candle sticks; I always grab brass candle sticks from the thrift stores! They’re usually a couple of dollars and they make a great addition to a centerpiece. Another option is the dollar tree, they have really pretty, and simple glass candle sticks. So we have our garland, we have candlesticks. Circling back to the grocery store produce, added a couple more squash for a pop of color. I did find this turkey for 4.99 at goodwill and added some spray paint but another option is just a Cinderella pumpkin, or left over pumpkin from fall! You can’t go wrong with bringing nature into the home!

Enjoy

With a few cozy spots of my home decorated, and one step ahead with the Christmas decor, we can sit back for the next week, and the holiday and just enjoy. Enjoy the slowness, and welcome in the holidays! Happy Thanksgiving Friends!!
